Ahna Girshick

Brief Bio

I am an interdisciplinary research scientist interested in human behavior, perception and technology. I am interested by the idea that our perceptions and behavior is not the result of arbitrary and complex rules, but rather simple probabilistic inference. With this motivation I investigate a diverse range of topics including visual perception, sensory integration, information visualization, 2D and 3D displays, and the relationship between perception, art, and computer graphics.

I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow in the Computer Science Department at UC Berkeley in the Visualization Lab working with Profs. Maneesh Agrawala and Hany Farid. Previously, I worked in New York University’s Department of Psychology and Center for Neural Science with Prof. Mike Landy and Prof. Eero Simoncelli. I received my Ph.D. in 2007 from the UC Berkeley Vision Science Program where I was advised by Prof. Marty Banks. Prior to that I did research in computer vision, computer graphics, information visualization and user interface design with Prof. Vicki Interrante and at the (former) Nissan Cambridge Research Lab.
